Bronco 2027 Ford’s New SUV The Right Fit
After the recent announcement of the new Bronco coming in 2027 and the production of the Everest set to continue, there is somewhat of a need to answer questions around who the target market is for Ford’s new SUV model. This is a dive into what type of customer the new Bronco is right for, and what you need to do to get one.
The Ford Everest will still be offered alongside the Bronco which will be a slightly smaller alternative SUV with 5 seats. So far there is every indication that the Bronco will be just as capable and desirable as the Everest has been in recent years.
As of yet, there are many unknowns regarding the new Bronco, but one thing we do know is that it’ll be sold with dual electric motors and a 49-kWh usable battery, in addition to the 1.5 litre petrol engine. Ford has been marketing this as a ‘super-hybrid’, due to the extended range that it is expected to offer of between 800 and 900km. The aim of this is to stop the range anxiety that so many owners feel with hybrid and fully electric vehicles. For some, this would be the party piece of the car, getting such distance out of a fairly unassuming hybrid powertrain, but this isn’t even where the Bronco really starts to show off. Sure, it’s capable of going long distances, but what else?
For starters, the nameplate ‘basecamp’ should be a dead giveaway as to who the vehicle is targeting. It brings visions of basecamp on a mountain. People camping out in the wilderness, fishing, relaxing and enjoying nature with their partner and family. If you thought that was Ford’s aim, then well…you’d be right.
The first little party trick is the camp kitchen. Open the rear swing gate and fold the table down to reveal your very own, go-anywhere portable kitchen. This, combined with warm/cool storage in the centre console makes for a complete kitchen-ready setup, just don’t forget your cooking utensils! But just imagine driving out, as far as 900km, then stopping for the night under a clear starry sky, opening your rear gate, and simply cooking up a meal.
Not only could you make meals from your basecamp, but the ‘sleep where you stop’ feature means you can go anywhere, cook a meal, and settle in for the night. You see, the Bronco’s seats will fold down to create a sleeping space; perfect for those who want to skip the van and annex setup, which if your family is anything like mine, it takes much longer than it says on the tin, not to mention it somehow seems to make tempers flare between parents.
The Bronco will be offered with the option of a bed to put inside the car! Simply pull up to your site, inflate the bed, fold your seats down and you’re ready for the night. But what about people who want just that bit more room?
Ford really did try to make this the perfect, ready-made camper car. An integrated lift roof allows not simply for more head room, but also better airflow on warmer nights in summer where sleep might otherwise become difficult.
Now you might be wondering, how complete could this car be? Will I need a dual battery setup? Well, due to ‘pro power on board’ the Basecamp is also capable of running several accessories such as lights, an espresso machine, and more! There is a 230V interior power outlet, but the Bronco will also offer buyers the chance to utilise power outside the car with an additional outlet you will plug into the charge port. This will be sold alongside the vehicle as an accessory, same as the bed.
Getting back to basics now, Ford has just increased their warranty period from 5 years to 7 years across all their vehicles. This gives them an edge over Toyota who are still offering 5. Any car delivered after September 1st this year qualifies, and the Bronco will too!
Finally, how does it perform on a drive? Is it comfortable? Ford has given a very select few people access to prototypes of this new Bronco so far, but the manufacturer promises ‘premium soft finishes and modern technology’, which we assume to mean apple CarPlay and android auto, much like the Everest, plus seats comfortable enough to keep passengers happy on long drives. We’ve seen renders and expect the interior to be mostly black with some white accents making for a refined look.
The Basecamp will be the first electrified vehicle in the Bronco lineup. It seems to be taking to heart the moniker of an ‘all purpose vehicle’; a moniker that the Bronco pioneered in the 1960s. That being said, I’m sure there are a lot of people waiting to get their hands on it to judge for themselves. You can get one by swinging by your local Ford dealership, with the car arriving in 2027.
